Important painting oil on canvas signed Léon HUBER (Montmartre 1858 - 1928) Beautiful Post-Impressionist composition representing a floral subject with carnations animated by a gilded brass planter inscribed on a draped background with theatrical staging depicting cats and kittens playing with flowers. Subject in perfect mastery with one of the artist's favorite themes, beautiful Napoleon III frame in gilded wood richly decorated with shells and foliage scrolls, original canvas in good condition on good key frame. Dimensions: 87 cm X 72 cm / at sight: 65 cm X 50 cm. Léon Charles Huber (1858-1928) Born in Paris Montmartre district, he studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts with Jules Grun. He exhibited his works at the Salon of French artists from 1887. He won many awards for his art, he made painting representing domestic cats his specialty and his works are still popular today, frequently auctioned at Christie's (see attached doc.). Bon vivant, from February 1906, he was a member of the Cornet goguette, he sang and, like Ingres, played the violin for his pleasure.
