Shepherds and shepherdesses at rest in a landscape by a river, in the background the ruins of a castle. Jean Pillement, this artist from Lyon began his career as a designer at the Gobelins factory then he traveled endlessly through Europe, he would serve at the court of King Stanislas II of Poland. Back in Paris, he was appointed painter to Queen Marie Antoinette in 1778. The work we are presenting represents a landscape of the Portuguese countryside.
