Charming painting representing two dancers in ballet outfits, one holding on to her points, the other adjusting her tiara before entering the scene. This oil on canvas is signed lower left Eugène lelièpvre. Note a slight small lack on the frame (see last photo). Eugène Leliepvre was born in Montreuil-sur-mer in 1908 (Pas de Calais) and died on November 17, 2013 at the age of 105. He is best known as a painter of cavalry and painter of elegant women. This last aspect of his work occupied from 1940 to 1960 an important part of his production. Some of these elegant are reminiscent of those of Gabriel Domergue. He is also famous for his hunts and his animal paintings. He was also for forty years a collaborator with the French Hunter and for twenty three consecutive years illustrated the Manufrance calendar. He will also be, with the help of his wife, model maker and figurinist for the Musée de la Marine in Paris. He will be appointed in 1951 official painter of the armies. Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1998.
