Eugène Damblans (1865-1945) was born in Uruguay to French parents. He first worked as an illustrator for Argentinian newspapers, then moved to France at the age of twenty-five. Watercolor painter and engraver, was a pupil of Buland and Fattorini. A perpetual member of the Salon des Artistes Français, he obtained an honorable mention there in 1912, a silver medal in 1913 and in 1923. He began his career in the famous pre-war newspaper Le Petit Journal for which he designed a considerable number of cover. Damblans also works for the newspapers: Le Journal des Voyages, La Caricature, La Mode, Le Pèlerin. His style is particular, unlike Poulbot and the Parisian slums. This artist is referenced in Bénézit volume 4, p.209, 1999 edition.
