Théophile Décanis (1847-1917) Petit Mas (mazet) In Provence

Nice painting by the great specialist of the Provençal landscape in the 19th century Théophile Décanis. The work represents a mazet in a landscape in Provence, it is offered in an elegant gilded Louis XIV style frame which suits it well and which measures 53 cm by 61 cm and 38 cm by 46 cm without the frame. In good condition with only a few cracks from normal use for a work from this period, it is signed lower right. The artist is the great specialist in the landscapes of Provence. He joined the artistic movement of the School of Marseille, with his master and friend Jean-Baptiste Olive (1848-1936) In 1900, he and 26 other painters received a commission from Mr. Stéphane Adolphe Dervillé, president of the Council of administration of the Compagnie des Chemins de fer de Paris in Lyon and the Mediterranean, to adorn the Great Hall of the restaurant Le Train bleu at the Gare de Lyon in Paris. He painted Cannes and Menton there. The city of Marseille gave its name to a street in the city.
