"Bronze Sculpture By Giovanni Battista Alloati"
Large bronze sculpture, representing an infantryman from the First World War. Signed by Alloati / Fonderie Betta The sculptor Giovanni Battista Alloati, born in Turin in 1878, completed his artistic studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Albertina in Turin, a pupil of Odoardo Tabacchi. In 1898, he created the sculptural decorations, in Liberty style, of certain rooms of the Turin Exhibition, in 1900, he collaborated in the preparation of the Italian pavilion at the Universal Exhibition in Paris and was selected, the only foreign artist, for collaborate in the realization of the decorations of the Grand Palais des Beaux Arts, in the French capital. In 1901, he returned to Turin and began to collaborate with the sculptors Leonardo Bistolfi, Pietro Canonica and Edoardo Calandra. Since 1901, he has participated in the reviews of Art Promoter and the Cercle des Artistes. In 1904, he created the sculptural decorations for the Piedmont hall of the Venice International Art Exhibition. In 1915, he participated as a volunteer in the Great War. At the end of the war, his work was influenced by modernist styles and in 1920 he was appointed holder of the chair of figure and ornament at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin. Giovan Battista Alloati died in his hometown in 1964.
