Jean-marie Euzet (1905-19 flag

Object description :

"Jean-marie Euzet (1905-19 "
Very rare gouache watercolor by Jean-Marie Euzet representing an abstract musicalist composition, signed and dated 1942 lower left. Format without frame 32x23cm and frame included 50x41cm. It is therefore a very beautiful abstract composition where one can possibly see a butterfly or a flower, in fact Euzet was often inspired by a figurative base that he then treated in an abstract or rather musicalist way. As usual, he uses a warm and colorful palette. This composition is rather early, in fact Euzet had passed to abstraction 7 years earlier, because before 1935 he practiced Fauve figurative painting, very influenced by his master Charles Bichet, Limougeaud painter whom I no longer present. During his years of training, the musical painter Jean-Marie EUZET (Sète, 1905 - Limoges, 1980) favors both the path of music education and that of the visual arts. After studying at the National School of Decorative Arts, he learned the violin at the Conservatory of Music in Limoges and followed musicology lessons at the Sorbonne as a free listener. Until the mid-1930s, his painting was deeply rooted in figuration marked in turn by Impressionism, Fauvism and then Cubism. Thanks to the painter Louis Alexandre BAUDON, he made the decisive encounter with VALENSI in 1934. Becoming very close to the latter, EUZET was introduced into the musical group and he formed friendships with Louise JANIN and Marcel LEMPEREUR-HAUT. He also became close to artists outside the group, such as Otto FREUNDLICH and Jeanne KOSNICK-KLOSS. After the war, EUZET was contacted by VALENSI who offered to participate in the first Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. Exhibiting since 1941 in the tapestry renovation movement, he decided to present a tapestry, a proposal that was refused to him because the committee did not accept this type of work. Not at all discouraged, the following year, EUZET, passing through Paris, again presented its candidacy for the show: "I will be able to narrowly participate in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles which opens on July 18. I had to run quite a bit. for that, and it is at HERBIN (abstracteur 100/100) that I completed the formalities for this participation, show which will certainly be very interesting. I will produce four paintings there that I will send as soon as I arrive. " The works of this period, purely abstract, are significantly entitled Composition, whereas previously, their titles referred to the state of mind in which they had been conceived. Showing the unfolding of geometric shapes that seem to be in constant metamorphosis, their frank and contrasting chromatism clearly distinguishes them from the dark and uniform background. At the beginning of the 1950s, EUZET evolved towards a more geometric abstraction, sometimes tending towards the decorative, as shown in Composition n ° 17. The pictorial field is occupied by a quantity of colorful geometric shapes with irregular cuts, including multiple convolutions and twists. , seeming to obey syncopated rhythms, create a complex and lively space. The colors, of great diversity (yellow, pink, green, orange, red, purple, ocher, gray), betray a concern for balance in their complementarity. Placed in vigorous flat areas, without any material effect, they are particularly lively and luminous. There emerges from this work a form of frenzied and exalted lyricism which testifies to the creative power of this artist with a passionate and sensitive temperament. Jean-Marie Euzet also practiced enamelling, just like his wife Juliette and they also worked at Camille Tharaud in Limoges where Jean-Marie will realize sumptuous decorations, unfortunately today extremely rare on the market ... This gouache watercolor is in very good condition, I just point out a few small molds on the surface, it will suffice to unframed this work in order to have it cleaned, if I have the time I will take care of it; finally delivered in a period frame of no great value.
