"José Calderé Marti (19th-20th) - Gouache - Els Segadors 1640 - Catalunya -c1890-1900"
Beautiful gouache by the painter José (Josep) Calderé Marti, active at the end of the 19th century in Spain and France where he collaborated for "Le Petit Journal". This gouache represents the revolt of the harvesters in Spain and more precisely in Barcelona in 1640 during the day known as "Corpus de sang" or "El Corpus de Sang". It is interesting to note that the representative painting of this event is that of Antoni Estruch dated 1907, but it seems that Calderé was active before this one, and that he posed in this composition all the elements included in this one. d'Estruch ... Finally since 1993, this event and its song have been the official anthem of Catalonia. Signed lower left but a little erased. I had to find a publication of this work to confirm it: http://poldest.blogspot.com/2018/09/romanc-dels-segadors.html Els pagesos revoltats contra els terços entren a Barcelona.
