"Thomas-francois Cartier : "monkey Eating A Fruit""
Thomas-François Cartier (1879-1943): “Monkey eating a fruit”, enamelled terracotta with thick gray, brown and green glaze 22 X 10 X 21 cm. The author, a formidable animal sculptor paradoxically somewhat forgotten in the History of Art by an excess of popularity, was in his time a regular exhibitor at the Salon where he was awarded many times until being Hors-Concours. Rightly esteemed by his peers, this "Monkey" comes from the Victor Charreton estate. Very naturalistic with this rightly grasped attitude, the quality of the enamelling makes it an exceptional piece.
