"Large Persian Kāshmar Carpet With Palmettes"
Entirely hand-knotted, pure wool, vegetable dyes, size: 3.86mX3.02m Kashmar (Persian: کاشمر) is a city in northeastern Iran, in the province of Khorasan-e-razavi. It is located 217 km south of Mashad. There are about forty different grapes and the city exports raisins, as well as saffron and carpets. These tightly knotted rugs have a cotton warp and feature typical Persian decorations, such as medallions, palmettes, arabesques, and mir-e butha or herati motifs. What is special about these rugs is the frequent use of cochineal red, and a wool that is as soft as it is supple for the pile although it is of high quality. Khorasan rugs, which are produced in various sizes, include Mashad, Dorukhsh, Birjand, Moud, Nain and Kashmar rugs, among others.
