Claude Michel, known as Clodion, French sculptor (1738 -1814)
Signed by the famous Parisian bronzier Ferdinand Barbedienne and made around 1880, this vase is bronze with brown and golden patina. Executed after the marble model of Clodion (now kept at the Art Institute of Chicago). This Neo-Classical style vase is carved with bas-reliefs representing The Sacrifice to Venus. The handles of this vase are made up of two chimerical monsters with undulating bodies, on a beautiful square base in Red Griotte marble. Numbered under the base 51512 with the letters 'NN'.
