Object description :

"Surprising As Tomb Painted In Faux Marbles XVIII Eme Century"
An astonishing chest of drawers, this chest of drawers from the Louis XV period dating from the 2nd half of the 18th century is made of natural wood (beech and walnut) painted with a decoration of faux marble.
this trompe l'oeil painting is original and there are two types of false marble:
a green campan on the drawer fronts and on the sides, a red cherry marble from Italy on the top and in the crosspieces of the facade as well as on the side rails.
the bronzes are not gilded but silver and the contrast with this painted piece of furniture is very interesting. you had oxidation due to time!
it is a chest of drawers in the shape of a curved and domed tomb on the front and on the sides.
it opens with three curved drawers on the front and there are symmetrical sides of the panels framed by the crosspieces and the uprights, pretty transition molding on the sides of the drawers.
the low cross member at the front is curved and scalloped and the curved uprights are extended by ungulate hooves.
the side rails are scalloped.
the contrast between the two marbles is striking and the decorative effect is superb and unexpected:
it looks like a piece of furniture made of marbles.
a surprising and original chest of drawers, a piece of furniture from the South of France painted in faux marble which turns out to be a rarity.
no restoration to report, the drawer slides have been revised and work correctly.
no attack by xylophagous insects but preventive treatment provided in the workshop.
a surprisingly ideal chest of drawers for a very decorative result.
