Our painting is a spectacular view of the Swedish capital. On the left one can see the imposing royal palace and the Storkyrkan or Saint Nicholas Church (Lutheran cathedral in the city). To the right of the palace, the royal museum, which became the national museum in 1866 on the Bladieholmen peninsula, then the dome of the army museum in the district of Ostermalm. This building is a former arsenal built in the 17th century for the manufacture and storage of weapons. The city is bathed and traversed by the waters of the Norrstrom with the banks provided with a generous nature. The artist also wanted to sublimate this natural space which surrounds the city by creating, over two thirds of its composition, a monumental sky of great beauty. The sky is quite cloudy but does not prevent the rays of the sun from piercing and melting on the waters of the Norrstrom whose reverberation contributes to the luminosity of the whole.
