MaddgaÏna : "portrait Of Ocean Iv"

Maddgaïna : “Portrait of Ocean IV”, oil on panel 25 X 37 cm, mounted in a gray and silver flocked inverted sloping frame 37 X 50 cm. Some time ago, I published a strange painting with the following text: “I continue to explore my“ ripening room ”with this painting whose signature still resists me. Those who follow me (who love me follow me!) Know that I really like the works representing the sea, these “Portraits of waves” of which Paguenaud, Auguin, Despujols or Ogier left us so many splendid examples. Bought dirty and naked in the early morning on a flea market, I had it cleaned and found a frame that highlights it, but this damn signature !!! Yet it is not just anyone who has produced this work, a close-up of the movements of water treated in large touches of green, blue and ivory bordering on abstraction. I sold it quickly and a few days later one of my esteemed colleagues from across France put one up for sale. I called him immediately, he did not know much more, but had three others and especially the photo of an old label which appeared on the back of another with the painter's address in Biarritz! It was therefore a regional which described itself as “Oceanist Painter”… Obviously, I bought the lot and offers it to you today after cleaning. If I read Maddsaina, I think maybe she should be interpreted as Saïna Madd, and therefore maybe a woman. Latest information: it should actually read "Maddgaïna", pseudonym of Madeleine Brieussel, born 08/26/08/1901 in Rodez and died 01/11/1988 in Labenne. She was the wife of Jean-Fabien Galey, the Basque painter who was her professor at the Beaux-Arts. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or phone.
