"Papua New Guinea: Engraved Coconut Lime Container, Abelam"
This lime container dates from the beginning of the 20th century and shows a very beautiful dark and shiny patina. The engraved patterns are typical of the Abelam people in Papua. Some traces of lime are still present on the object. Lime was used by mixing it with areca nut or betel nut and was thus consumed throughout the day as a soft drug.
