Object description :

"Old American Sarough, Persian Carpet, 132 Cm X 214 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool Mid-20th Century,"
Sarough carpet from "American Sarough" measuring 132 cm wide by 214 cm long in very good condition, restored; fringes and edges.
The American Sarough rug was originally designed to satisfy the American market.
These rugs were woven with light, rust-colored backgrounds, which did not appeal to the American market, which demanded darker and more intense colors.
As a result, the carpets had to be re-dyed when they arrived, which earned them the name “painted Sarough”.
The designs of Sarough rugs are varied.
They can sport central medallions, country designs and pale floral patterns in cream, indigo and red or salmon colors.
In the center, in the mountains of Inner Iran, north of Arak (formerly Sultanabad), is the city of Sarough (or Sarouk). At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, this place was one of the most active carpet-weaving regions in Iran.
There are very large Persian carpets, among the most refined of the time.
Due to strong western demand, most Sarough rugs were exported, especially to the United States.
Following the decline of the European market caused by the First World War.
It is mainly their quality, durability and style that have made Sarough rugs so popular.
Tied with the Persian knot, made of a sturdy high quality wool, with a very thick and dense pile, the Sarough rug is very durable and is ideal for interiors.
Our old model has very slight wear due to its good age, the restored edges are impeccable, the fringes short and clean, it is a finely tight carpet, of very good quality.
This rug has been professionally cleaned and environmentally friendly.
