Achille Valois obtained his training as an artist at the School of Fine Arts in Paris under the direction of the painter Jacques-Louis David and the sculptor Antoine-Denis Chaudet. He won the second Grand Prix de Rome in 1808 on the subject Daedalus putting wings on his son Icarus. It begins at the Salon of 1814 with a bust of Louis XVIII made from life. A version of this bust is currently in the Saint-Denis basilica.
He is related by his mother to the painter specializing in portraits under Louis XV, François-Hubert Drouais.
