DESCRIPTION :
16th century Wakizashi Koto blade, Muromachi period
Signature - Mei : 備 前 国 長 船 七 朗 右衛門 祐 定 (*) Blacksmith's name: Bizen no Kuni Osafune Shichiro-Ueimon Sukesada - Location : 備 前 国 Bizen no Kuni. There are many artisans bearing the name of Sukesada and during the Tensho 天正 period (1573-1592) there were many who were gifted. The Sukesada of this time are mainly : Tensho Sukesada or in other words : Fujishiro Sukesada 藤 四郎 祐 定 and the official blacksmith of the Daimyo family of the Okayama region by the name of Kobayakawa who was called: Shichiro-Ueimon Jo Sukesada 七朗 右衛門 尉 祐 定 as well as Shichiro-Eimon Jo Sukesada 七 朗 衛 門 尉 祐 定 were very famous blacksmiths. (*) We can notice that in the signature of the blade there is a character (Kanji) which is absent. This can be explained either by the period of realization of this Wakizashi blade, or by the fact that the Nakago is shorter than for a Katana. It should be noted that a Wakizashi with a Zokumyo and a date is quite rare, this could be explained by the fact that this craftsman was the official blacksmith of the Kobayakawa Family and that he did not have to produce fagot blades / weight.
