"A Louis XVI Neoclassical Barometer, 18th Century."
Vertical barometer-thermometer, in lacquered and gilded lime wood with the leaf treated in burnished and amati. Elegant work of sculptures with a pure neoclassicism symmetrical decoration such as wavy ribbon bow, laurel leaves, streaks of pearls and flowers. A calibrated thermometer according to René Antoine Ferchault de Réamur (1683 - 1757) adorns the upper part in a linear cartridge of striped pearls. This one is annotated with personal mentions such as references, dated from 1744 to 1765 without forgetting the notation in centigrade of Réaumur. The main part housing the barometer at atmospheric pressure graduated according to Torricelli (1643) and Pascal (1647) is provided with a circular oculi. The latter is adorned with a central decoration of compass rose, polychrome lyse flowers and annotated on the periphery of atmospheric variations; such as, heavy rain, variable rain or mountain bike, fair weather, fixed and very dry beam. It should be noted that the name and quality of the optician at the time was partially erased, probably by one of its former owners.
