"Andre Sieffert : "the Hand""
André Sieffert (20th century): “The hand”, oil on canvas 24 X 33 cm, mounted in a pretty old baguette gilded with 28 X 37 cm leaf. Circa 1930. If the Bénézit tells us that he was an Hors-Concours Member of French Artists, many times medalist, we know practically nothing about him. I fell in love when I saw this beautiful hand placed upside down on an armchair, dirty and the canvas relaxed. I became the owner after a bitter negotiation, I quickly took it to the restaurateur who put tension bands on it before cleaning it and had him cut a frame to dress it up… We understand that this beautiful hand of man is pulling down the hem of a robe which I suppose to be of silk, purple with black braid. Originally, it may have been a study for a large painting, but I think the detail gives me more than this. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or phone.
