"Knight Candlestick In Armor Mounted In Lamp Signed Goberg"
Wrought iron and brass candlestick signed GOBERG Ges. Gesch (Abbreviation of gesetzlich geschütz which means protected by law). It is a creation of Hugo Berger. In 1895 Hugo Berger (Goberg) started his first metal factory in Schmalkalden, Germany, where decorative ironwork was produced in the traditional way. The use of materials such as iron and brass is typical of Goberg's work. The manual character clearly attracts attention. Its style, method and materials fit perfectly with the Arts & Crafts movement, a very popular style at the time. At the start of the 20th century, he became well known around the world, due to the fact that the Liberty department store and associated stores sold much of his work.
