Excellent and rare ancient representation of the saint considered to be the Protomartyr or the first martyr of Christianity. Here St Stephen is pictured the instant before his death by stoning after Jewish authorities (left) accused him of blasphemy for teaching Christianity. On the right a young Saul of Tarsus witness to martyrdom, Saul will later become Paul the Apostle (St Paul).
