"Watercolor Gouache By Ferdinand Pertus 1883-1948"
Very beautiful watercolor gouache on paper measuring cm x 32cm plus frame 44cm x 42cm The animated Medieval Village Signed lower right F.PERTUS Son of a banker, Ferdinand Pertus began studying law alongside his artistic activity. Having become a notary in a village in Languedoc, Marguerittes, in the 1920s he returned to his passion and resumed painting. The town hall of Nîmes commissioned him a series of works retracing the history of the inhabitants of the city to decorate the town hall. Among these paintings, some have gone beyond the scope of regional fame and are well known, even if the name of the artist is often not known. This is the case for example of the barbarian Hordes of Crocus or King Wamba crushes the mutineers in the arenas of Nîmes. He died in Marguerittes in 1948.
