"Baudelaire - The Artificial Heaven (opium And Haschish). 1923, Illustrated By Henry Chapront."
BAUDELAIRE (Charles) - Artificial Paradise (opium and hashish). Paris, Society of Bibliophile Doctors, 1923; in-8, 244 pp., paperback, folded cover. One of 150 numbered copies on hand laid paper made of linen and hemp. The text was drawn up on the original edition by Félix Cadet de Gassicourt and Maurice Heine. The woodcuts are by Henry Chapront, the ornaments are in black in the text, the inserts are in color. Superb agreement between a book, its author, its illustrator and the making of the book. Baudelaire, a 19th century French poet, is famous for his melancholy. He's also a great art critic and die-hard hash smoker. Very good state.
