Lacemaker Cushion Drum from Queyras (Hautes Alpes). XIXth Popular Art.
Traditional gift often made and offered during the engagement by the young man to his bride.
In carved stone pine / larch,
decorated with a rosette and geometric patterns surrounded by a guilloche frieze, on one side;
on the other side, geometric patterns with a volute foliage effect and surrounded by a guilloche frieze.
Assembly by means of wedges.
Canvas cushion (original and in good condition), fixed by a leather ribbon held by small nails.
Good condition. Note that the small door is missing which fitted and closed the drum where the lacemaker stored its spindles.
