Thebaluster-shaped vases in blue enamelled earthenware decorated with dragons. Gilt bronze mounts, the sides with elephant head handles. Signed Ficquenet, Sèvres and stamped GA for Maison Gagneau.
Maison Gagneau, bronzier and manufacturer of lighting, was founded in Paris in 1800 and famous for having worked with Theodore Deck. They moved from 25 rue d'Enghien to 115 rue Lafayette. The House was famous throughout the 19th century and took part in the Industrial Products Exhibition, the Universal Exhibitions and was even part of the jury in the “Bronzes” category during the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris.
