" Writing Desk Bonheur Du Jour, Louis XVI Period, Lemon Tree And Amaranth"
Lovely writing desk, said bonheur du jour ; lemon tree, amaranth and brass veneer. This is a Parisian or Bordelese work, late 18th century production (Louis XVI, Directoire). Most precious piece, it was designed for a multi-purpose use : small cupboard in the center of the top part, galleries combined with mirrors to store and display valuable items, drawers for jewelry including one with a safe box, leather-trimmed tray to write with a drawer for the inkwell. This elegant piece of furniture shows a high level craftsmanship with refined wood veneers (lemon and amaranth, including on the back), brass inlays.
Every part is original: marble, bronzes, mercury mirrors, only one lock was replaced with its key. Our piece is in outstanding condition. It comes straight from our restorer who made the varnish in a traditional way.
