"Andre Tondu : "the Country Bouquet""
André Tondu (1903-1980): “Bouquet champêtre”, oil on canvas 81 X 65 cm, mounted by spinners in a gray-blue and gold frame 94 X 77 cm. Originally larger in size, it has been cropped, perhaps by Tondu himself and re-signed at the bottom right. In a perfectly balanced composition, this rustic bouquet which stands out against the dark background is arranged in a pitcher on a white tablecloth striped with blue, with the yellow counterpoint of the scattered lemons, is characteristic of the in-between period. -wars of Tondu (he obtained the Prix de Rome in 1931 and stayed in the Eternal City following).
