Italian Neoclassical Bench, 18th Century

Here is a curious Italian carved wooden bench that meets all the codes of the late 18th century neoclassicism. Its shape is not common in France but was nevertheless found regularly in Italy, Austria and England in the 18th century. Low and comfortable, the seat conceals a lockable chest. The armrests are large windings in carved and gilded wood, adorned with fatty acanthus leaves beautifully carved. The refinement of this all-sided bench goes so far as to present, under the windings, other acanthus leaves in gilded wood, very well executed. Unique and atypical , this bench seat is in very good condition. Some stains on the pale yellow ribbed velvet.
