In 1938, Jean Robert attended evening classes in the City of Paris in Robert Lesbounit's studio. Under the advice of his teacher, he adopted his mother's surname as his artist's name. During the occupation, in 1941, resistant to the compulsory labor service (STO), he escaped a bombardment in the guard of Saintes where he worked. 1948: he takes part in a collective work inspired by medieval construction sites, he creates two frescoes in the church of St Jacques le Major in Montrouge. 1953: he abandons painting for sculpture and works in his studio in Choisy-le-Roi. 1962: the artist returns to the Claude Bernard gallery in Paris where he exhibits for 22 years. 1975: he made Hydrorrhage a sculpture commissioned by the city of Paris which is permanently exhibited at the Sculpture Museum and in the park of the town hall of Bar-le-duc. 1979: Berlin commissions the sculptor to build in front of the Palais des Congrès, the largest sculptural ensemble executed since the war by a single artist: "Man builds his city". Until 1994, he worked on numerous public and private commissions and gallery exhibitions.
