Oil on canvas framed, representing the portrait of Madame JD, 1926, signed, titled and dated on the back. Dimensions of the canvas: 81 x 66 cm Edouard Goerg was born in Australia in 1893 to French parents, into a family of champagne merchants. He soon won their counter in England where he remained a few years before settling in Paris in 1900. Very early intended for painting, he became a pupil of Paul Sérusier and Maurice Denis at the Académie de Ranson where he studied from 1913 to 1914. From 1920, he became one of the major figures of French Expressionism.In the interwar period, his success was evident.He participated in the Sacred Art Workshops with his former master Murice Denis. He was elected member of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1965. In 1968 an exhibition was organized at the Château-Musée de Cagnes.
