"Rare Embroidered Kaftan - Ottoman Empire - Early 19th Century"
Late 18th or early 19th century Ottoman Empire Astonishing and very early on banyan, kaftan or Ottoman coat dating from the end of the 18th century for the embroidery and early 19th century for the cut. Raw silk background with woven checks (origin India?), Very finely embroidered with wheels / suns in indigo silk, andrinople red and yellow; seedlings of small daisies. The heart of the wheels is embroidered with flat silver metallic thread. Collar and handles with embroidered braid with red cotton thread and gold thread, two attached bell buttons. Lining in fine madder red cotton, and edging in indigo dyed satin. Flared kaftan cut, yoke under the armpits and side slits at the bottom. Excellent condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: small size. Back height 97 cm, front height 92 cm, shoulders 38 cm, sleeves 51 cm, waist 82 cm
