"Large Full-length Portrait Of Marshal Of The Empire Augereau, 235 Cm"
From the work of Charles Thévenin: Impressive full-length portrait of Charles Pierre François Augereau, Marshal of Napoleon. He is represented here at the famous Pont d'Arcole during the Italian campaign. Nicknamed “The proud brigand”, he particularly distinguished himself in 1796 at the Battle of Castiglione. The French army is indeed in a critical position, it is then the only one to advise the attack, it gains the victory thanks to its tactics and its military maneuvers. This great feat of arms will lead Bonaparte once Emperor to appoint him Duke of Castiglione. This oil on canvas taken in a wooden frame comes from the Château de Prat located in Ariège. Built in the 13th century, it was originally the home of the Counts of Comminges. This painting is part of an important series of four large portraits of personalities of the Empire commissioned by the former owner of the castle and in our possession: Maréchal Augereau, Maréchal Victor, Maréchal Sérurier and Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand.
