" Huge Pair Of Pastoral Scenes, Surroundings Of Bassano, Italy, Period Early XVII Eme"
Rare pair of paintings representing two Italian pastoral scenes at the very beginning of the 17th century. The composition, the rustic scene showing figures tending to rich herds around a well in a twilight atmosphere, are all typical elements of the style of the great Bassano dynasty including the founding father Jacopo Bassano (1510-1592) was the most prominent representative. His son Francesco (1549-1592) collaborated for a long time in his father's works and extended their style. Another of his sons, Leandro (1557-1622), focused mainly on portraiture. The Bassano dynasty remains one of the flagship schools of Venetian painting of the 16th and 17th centuries, it will last even until the 18th century. The second half of the 16th century marks its peak since it is during this period that the works of Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Bassano rub shoulders. Our pair of paintings in dark and deep colors is in very good condition. The canvases are presented in wooden frames and gilded stucco in the leaf. The gilding of these frames is somewhat faded in places, some minor wear (see photos) should be noted. Presence of labels (probably exhibition: Jacques Lagaillarde Madrid) at the back of the canvases. It is very rare to find this type of work presented in pairs. Canvas dimensions only: 100 cm x 60 cm
