Saint Eloi for Catholics is celebrated on December 1st. Although still a layman, he was brought up in 640 on the siege of Noyon. After his election as Bishop of Noyon, Saint Eloi spent twenty years converting the Druidic population of Flanders and the Netherlands to Christianity. His companion Saint Ouen relates it in his Vita d'Eligius. Invested with all the confidence of Dagobert I, he fulfilled the most important missions and succeeded in particular in bringing Judicaël, Duke of the Bretons, to make his submission in 636. He would have performed miracles, such as the rescue of the fire of the church of Saint-Martial in the Ile de la Cité in Paris and the healing of a paralytic in the abbey of Saint-Denis. Saint Eloi is generally considered to be the patron saint of workers who use a hammer, and more precisely of goldsmiths, jewelers, engravers, blacksmiths, etc. Height: 51 cm Width: 19 cm Depth: with butt 11.5 cm Reference: D10 75 All photos are on: www.antiques-delaval.com
