The iconostasis (from Greek, eikon, image and stasis, station) is the most important non-architectural ensemble of an Orthodox church. It is made up of several rows of icons arranged according to the liturgical order. Physically and spiritually, the iconostasis divides the church into two parts: the nave and the altar. The portable iconostasis was mainly reserved for armies in the field, as a support for prayer, especially before major battles. This one is exceptionally complete.
