-Sophie preparing the goal of the arch of the Young SArgines
-The Young Sargines receiving the sword of Philippe Auguste
These two engravings are inspired by a comedy by Jacques- Marie Boutet de Monvet, "Sargines or the pupil of love, written in 1785.
This history of chivalry takes place under Philippe Auguste: Sargines is the son of a knight living in idleness and ignorance, despised for that by his father and his subordinates. and his love for Sophie de Villehardouin, as well as the confidence that King Philippe Auguste places in him and which he shows by giving him his sword, will transform him into a hero. These two engravings present decisive moments in the life of the young future hero
They bear the words "Drawn by the Count" and "engraved by Gross", as well as texts taken from the comedy.
