"Vase With A Bird, Maruki Company, Meiji Japan 19th Century"
A monumental vase with a bird (robin?) Chasing a fly. The animal sits on a branch which has an incredibly beautiful flower (lily?). This subject in Japanese art is called Kachō-ga, which means images of birds and flowers, and was extremely popular during the Edo and Meiji period. The scene was shown in a very realistic and expressive way. Cast bronze, hand carved, polished and patinated. Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), Maruki Company, Seisui artist. The marks read: ま る き 製 Maruki-sei (done) 晴 水 Seisui (the name of the craftsman). Height: 49cm. The condition is visible in the photos, good, no damage, but there are scratches and abrasions on the patina. I send packages by insured mail. All items are packaged very carefully.
