This "Child Portrait" dated 1975 is one of the first paintings by JC Roca Sans in Monells, a small medieval town in the Baix Emporda region of Catalonia.
Monells housed in those years, a whole colony of Spanish and foreign artists of multiple artistic aspirations.
Roca Sans, then 29 years old, had left the Superior School of Fine Arts of Barcelona after three years of studies, to be able to live and paint in this region which still retained at that time, a human and natural presence of a rural world that would soon be totally transformed.
With a fervor to paint life and to be a witness to it, he produced a series of portraits of children from the town of Monells who came to pose after school in his studio, including this painting which is part of it.
These paintings from the first period have recently been cataloged.
This oil on canvas is in very good condition, signed lower right.
