"La Frileuse", this bronze work represents a young woman still on the bank getting ready to swim. Statuette produced at the beginning of the 20th century by SUSSE Frères Editeurs Paris (presence of the seals) and signature (posthumous) of Carpeaux on the base. The patina is original (slight wear of use) remarkable quality of cast iron. Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, famous French sculptor was born in Valenciennes in 1827, his works are exhibited at the Salon from 1853. Among the many awards he obtains the Grand Prix de Rome in 1855, the Genius of Dance, The Imperial Prince, his Busts of great figures from the second half of the 19th century have ensured its notoriety.
