Of German origin, Guillaume Schwingkens arrived in Paris at the time of the Regency and obtained his master's degree probably at the start of the reign of Louis XV. He began to practice rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine and around 1745, he transferred his workshop to rue de Charonne. Its furniture, mainly chests of drawers and cupboards, are all in Louis XV style, with very neat proportions, in veneer wood with occasional marquetry motifs. He died in 1760. It should be noted that the Louvre Museum preserves a charming little chest of drawers from this cabinetmaker.
