Beautiful genre painting by the famous Austro-German painter Hermann Knopf (born in 1870 in Vienna). He studied 1887 - 1891 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (by JVBerger) and in Munich (by A.Liezen-Mayer), worked 1896 - 1897 in Paris by F. Cormon then in Munich. Member of the Artist Union in Munich, since 1894 exhibits at "Glaspalast". The artist was popular for portraits and genre paintings, traveled to Holland where he found patterns for his paintings. His works exhibited throughout Europe: in Berlin (1899-1901,1905,1908, 1912), in Dresden 1908, Vienna 1903, Duesseldorf 1908, Paris (Salon de la Société d'Art Français 1903), St. Louis ( USA) by World Exposition 1904. Today his paintings are part of the collections of the State Museum in Münster, the Pinakotek in Munich, the City Museum in Munich.

Inscription: signed Hermann Knopf Munich lower left, original bronze plaque with the painter's name, mounted to the frame; kn the back of the stretcher- old label with the artist's biography.
