Object description :

"Albinus - Two Prints - A Skeleton And A Flayed - 1749"
ALBINUS (Bernhard Siegfried), Two prints engraved on copper - a skeleton and a skinned one -, taken from the Tabulae sceleti et musculorum corporis humani of Albinus (plates VII and IX), London, John and Paul Knapton, 1749. Dimensions of the image: approximately 527 x 377 mm. Later colors. Each mounted under an ivory mat in a modern gilded frame. Clear wetting on the lower margin of Plate VII, without affecting the image. These two prints are taken from the London edition of 1749 by the Knapton brothers, whose plates were re-engraved after the drawings by Jan Wandelaar for the original edition of 1747 in Leiden. All bear the address "Impensis J. & P. Knapton Londini" and a date. Plate VII was engraved by Scotin in 1747, plate IX by Boitard in 1748. Beautiful diptych of superb anatomical prints, true masterpieces of medical engraving.
