"Double Bust, Demetre Chiparus (1886-1947) Art Deco"
Double busts in patinated terracotta. They represent a young couple with very ornate hair, reminiscent of archaic Greek sculpture and ancient Egyptian art. Signed DH Chiparus. Art deco, France, 1920s / 30s. Demetre Haralamb Chiparus (1886-1947), originally from Romania, is one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco period. He studied in Italy and France. His professional career was linked to Paris. The works created by Chiparus are inspired by dance, especially Russian ballet, and archaeological finds in Egypt. The artist has often used a technique known since ancient times - chryselephantine - which involves combining metal casts with carved ivory. The style of the sculptures also refers to the idealized figures of classical Greece. Chiparus' interests were not limited to the human figure, he visited zoos where he drew animals. During World War II, Chiparus' works fell into oblivion, but in the 1970s they achieved further success, which continues to this day. Height 31.5 cm, width 40 cm, depth 16.5 cm. Condition as seen in the photos, very good, small chip on the back of the base. Free delivery in EU! I send packages by insured mail. All items are packaged very carefully.
