Object description :

"Japan - Small Carved Table - Keyaki Wood - Edo 18 / 19th."
Small table in Keyaki wood essence. The upper shelf is decorated with a hollow carved dragon. A sculpted turtle decorates the lower shelf. A very finely carved apron representing stars and forming part of the table is applied under the upper shelf. The body of the table as well as the legs are scalloped and curved. The ends are represented by small streams of water. Very good state. Restored by a master cabinetmaker. One of the important natural philosophies of Asia representing the universe is here suggested by: The turtle representing the water as well as the earth in which it lives, the dragon being a representation of fire and moving in the air. air. The four elements making up the universe are thus united: Earth, water, air and fire. Japan - Edo Era - 18 / 19th C. Dimensions: Height: 36 cm; Length: 22 cm; width: 22 cm
