A beautiful glass vase with lilies. The composition shows the plants in their natural environment, accompanied by a butterfly. Paul Nicolas (1875-1952), studied architecture and painting at the École de Beaux-Arts in Nancy. He was a pupil of Emile Gallé, with whom he worked from 1893, when Emile discovered a great talent in the young boy. After the death of his master in 1904, Paul Nicolas became head decorator at Etablissements Gallé, where he worked until 1919, when he founded his own workshop and signed his products "D'Argental", then "P. Nicolas" . Signed D'Argental, Nancy, circa 1920. Height 39.5 cm, base diameter 15 cm. Good state of conservation.
