"Raymond Dierickx : "procession Leaving The Church""
Raymond Dierickx (1904-1978) “Procession leaving the church”, oil on panel 50 X 60 cm mounted in a golden patinated Parnassian frame 65 X 73 cm (accident). Originally titled "The Departure of the Procession", Dierickx later changed the title on a label countersigned on the back Recurring theme of his work, the processions are always superbly treated, like this one whose the shimmer of gold and the luminosity of the veils of the communicants contrast on the portal of the Gothic church which has remained in the shade with a beggar in counterpoint. It was for us a real discovery that this beautiful Belgian artist! Even found in leaves and dusty, these drawings, once prepared and framed, reveal all the talent of Dierickx, close to artists like Nicolas Eeckmann, Fritz Van den Berghe, Constant Permeke or other typically Flemish expressionists such as Anto Carte, representing Fêtes , processions, fairs in the great tradition of Flemish painters dating back to the 17th century with the Brughels, but treated with great modernity. Other facets of his work show us his projects for frescoes or large decorations, often exotic, while in the old watercolors, we find a Symbolist vein with an elongated barrel. We dedicated an exhibition to it (pdf catalog available by email) with the first ones found, but we have bought many since!
