Object description :

"Old Persian Kirman Rug, 1880, Iran, 122 Cm X 195 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Late 19th Century"
rare Kirman or Kerman, Iran, end of the 19th century, in short shaved kork wool, hand knotted, measuring 122 cm wide by 195 cm long, for a density of about 450,000 knots per m2 composing a superb medallion carpet decorated with 'tracery, aristoloches, flowers in shades of blue and pink on a cream background. Very soft and fine kork wool is the wool taken from under the neck and stomach of lambs. The carpet has a fineness of about 5 mm thick, the density of the knots and the quality of its wool make it a solid and resistant carpet. The Kirman is often decorated with flowers and most of the time has a medallion that stands out against a plain background, in this case the motifs of the medallion are repeated in the border and the four spandrels (corners). Some of these rugs also feature large animal scenes. Our model, a kirman raver or kirman lavar is from the town of Raver north of Kirman, presents a magnificent medallion of great delicacy and great beauty. The shades of this rug are most remarkable and very soft. Kerman is the largest city in Southeastern Iran and is the capital of the province of the same name. The reputation of Kirman and raver rugs is due to the excellence of the "Ostads", these incredibly skilled cardboard designers have kept the sense of the tradition of these large and solid Persian rugs The deep harmony of colors results of a perfect dosage which testifies to the great creativity of the craftsmen of Kirman. This old piece is in good condition with some wear and tear, and has been professionally and environmentally friendly cleaned. Since the edges have some wear, it is possible to restore them, and we can do it for you, but that would be a shame.
