"Zénon Trigo Watercolor Representative Father Zim-zim Famous Player Of Old Nantes"
Zénon Trigo or Pierre-Cénon Trigo (1850-1914) was born in Spain in Ataca but he spent most of his career in Nantes. It is a portrait painter who was the pupil of Eduardo Rosales Martinez (1836-1873). His paintings and his watercolors have delighted the people of Nantes. We owe him all the lost trades of old Nantes, from the glazier to the sweeper, from the jailloux to the umbrella mender. We also owe him many daily scenes from Nantes and figures of the city, the best known of which are Gobe La Lune, Father Zim Zim or the Amadou sisters. He sold his paintings on the market. Our watercolor represents Father Zim Zim, a well-known Oldie player in the city. Immortalized by many postcards, Father Zim-Zim and Gobe-la-Lune are two figures of Nantes from the Belle Epoque. One old, the other singer, these two street artists seem in particular to have aroused great curiosity among the commentators of their time. Joseph Palemon dit Zim-Zim was born in Italy in 1835 in Rittana and died in Nantes in 1908.
