Object description :

"The Temple Of Philae Egypt - Auguste Louis Veillon (1834-1890)"
Orientalist oil on canvas signed by Auguste Louis Veillon. The painting is similar to another painting "The Nile near Philae" - Auguste Veillon. 1885 in the collections of the Geneva Museum of Art and History. Swiss.

Auguste Veillon obtained a diploma in reformed theology in Lausanne. He then joined François Diday's studio in Geneva, where he painted mainly seascapes and the mountains of the Bernese Oberland.

In 1858, he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There, he met the orientalist painter Eugène Fromentin, which produced a turning point in his work. He travels to Rome, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Egypt. He lived for two years in Venice, before settling in Geneva. There he concentrated on orientalist themes, painting mainly landscapes with the Nile or the Dead Sea.

Present at the Turnus and at the Geneva municipal exhibitions. He won a medal at the Universal Exhibition in Vienna (1873) and an honorable mention at that in Paris (1889).
